Reduced Annual Taxes by $167,000 in First Term as Highway Commissioner
Mike’s number one campaign promise was “Lower Taxes”. We are proud to say he has done so three out of four since being elected. And the other year they remained flat. He and Lee Jennings have done this by running Nunda Township with the tax payer in mind and never compromising quality. Other municipalities have seen the way Nunda is now operating and many have begun following suit. There is hope for Illinois.
A note from Iron Mike and Lee Jennings-
“As your current Nunda Township Supervisor and Highway Commissioner, we would like to thank you for your confidence and support over the last four years. We have lowered taxes in the township over five percent while increasing services. We have also eliminated all capital debt which will allow the township to maintain lower taxes for a long time.”
Please vote for the following candidates to keep Nunda Township the strong and effective government you deserve:
Kelvin “Lee” Jennings – Supervisor
“Iron Mike” Lesperance – Highway Comm.
Justen Fanzke – Assessor
Joni Smith – Clerk
Ed Dvorak – Trustee
William Boltz – Trustee
Karen Tynis – Trustee
Debra Heath – Trustee

Iron Mike is continuing his six basic campaign points from last election:
A. Lower the Township Highway Expenses by Spending Less
Mike will continue to do this by:
- Continuing to reject all unnecessary spending
- Employing the best staff possible.
- Doing as much work as possible in house.
- Working directly with crew, leading and training them (when not performing administrative duties).
- Maintaining equipment in order to stretch the years of available service.
- Networking with other townships, villages, counties and my three decades worth of construction and administrative contacts.
- Competitive bid every possible line item.
B. Treat Residence with Respect & Dignity (Customer Service)
The customer is king and in this case the resident. As Highway Commissioner, Mike always tries to understand and work with you on issues of importance. He will always treat you with the respect deserving of a tax payer.
C. No Nepotism
Mike will not hire any of his family members. Not his wife, cousins, sons, daughters, brothers, sister or any other. Many of of his family members are very qualified to work within the Highway Department. However, Mike Lesperance believes the citizens of Nunda Township deserve to know that employees are being hired based on their qualification, not familiar ties. Further, the citizens deserve to know that hired employee salaries are based on merit, and not who they’re related to. And finally, the citizens deserve to know that positions exist because they are essential to the function of the Highway Department and not because an elected official’s family member needed a job.
D. Code of Conduct
Mike has developed a Code of Conduct for all Highway Department employees. Their Code of Ethics centers around “Public Trust”: The taxpayers interest will be our sole reason for decisions made.
E. “I will lead by example, bringing honor and integrity to our Highway Department.”
Straight talk, honesty and integrity above all.
F. Work closely with other township staff and local municipalities
By maintaining close professional relationships with other township staff, Iron Mike encourages productive and efficient operations for all township residents.
